Our Team
Tom Sands Guitars truly wouldn’t be the same without the talented team working behind the scenes.
⬇
Ted Smith
Ted is Tom's right-hand-man.
Making a splash in the workshop straight from school, he’s developed his talent in woodworking under Tom’s watchful eye for two years and counting.
Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Ted continues his family line of lutherie. A selection of his grandfather’s tools inhabit the workshop as an ode to that lineage.
Ted’s endless passion and curiosity has challenged some of our long standing workshop processes, which continue to improve many of our practices.
Will Killen
Will is the man behind the camera.
We first met Will when he performed for our Shop Sessions series. We quickly realised his passion for photography/videography, and it didn’t take long for him to be working with us on a plethora of visuals.
Will is hugely inspiring. Having a photographer who’s also a musician has generated some great ideas for the company, allowing us to better showcase our guitars and build an online community.
Will McNicol
Multi-award winning acoustic guitarist, Will McNicol, has been working with Tom Sands Guitars from the very beginning.
Will’s played and recorded almost every TSG ever made, giving him an intimate understanding of the various models and wood-specs. Will owns two TSG’s, Jupiter and Juno, which he’s recorded and toured with extensively.
Will often accompanies Tom on various musical adventures whether it be to guitar shows or special guitar-delivery recitals for clients, and you'll likely find them enjoying a whisky over a game of chess somewhere along the way!
Stella
Multi-award winning tail-wagger and butt-sniffer, Stella is the heart of our team. She brings a welcome burst of oxytocin when stress levels are high as well as acting as our entire HR department, Head of Security, and Therapy Pup.
Her excess neck skin doubles up as a Tudor ruff or neck pillow, depending on her mood.
Our guitars wouldn’t be the same without Stella’s keen oversight.
Helen Taylor
Joining us from virtual assistant agency Upsource, Helen is responsible for keeping us organised and on top of our admin, as well as being the first point of contact for most of our customers.
Although originally a Yorkshire-lass, she’s now based in Asturias in northern Spain…which is where the rain in fact mainly falls.
Learning about tonewoods and the art of luthiering has been a learning curve for Helen, but she’s no stranger to guitars as her father was a regular in the Leeds folk scene for many years.
